Description
Half-length portrait of Gideon Algernon Mantell, turned to the right as viewed and looking back at viewer. He is clean-shaven with long side-whiskers. Behind, to the viewer’s right, displayed on a cushion with inscription ‘IGUANODON’, are a large fossil and a smaller bone.
Inscribed in pencil ‘1825. Dr. Mantell. GIDEON ALGERNON MANTELL LL.D’.
Gideon Algernon Mantell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1825.
