    Half-length portrait of John Mayow, turned to the left as viewed and looking back at viewer. He wears fur trimmed coat with large white lace collar. In an oval frame surmounted by an eagle [with flames and smoke?].

    Inscribed ‘JOHN MAYOW, M.D.’ and pencilled ‘1678’.

    John Mayow was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1678.
