Description
Head and shoulder portrait of John David Michaelis, turned to the right as viewed and looking off to distance. He wears wide collared jacket with lace trimmed neck tie and badge pinned to left hand breast of jacket. In an oval frame of two sprigs of foliage with flowers.
Inscribed ‘Basire. Sc. JOHANN DAVID MICHAELIS' and pencilled ‘1789’.
John David Michaelis was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1789.
