Half-length portrait of Edward Montagu, turned to the right as viewed and looking straight at viewer. He wears armour with badge of garter.
Inscribed ‘Sr Peter Lely Pinxt. W.N Gardiner Sculpt. EARL of SANDWICH' and pencilled ‘Montagu. Edw Montagu. 1663'.
Edward Montagu was an original Fellow of the Royal Society, elected in 1663.
