Description
Half-length portrait of Giambattista Morgagni, wearing long wig, fur mantle, long bands, and shirt with ruffled cuffs. He stands at table with inkwell and holds book in left hand.
Inscribed on separate paper ‘Joannes Baptista Morgagnus; M.D. F.R.S. Patavii Joilus [?] Aprilis CD DCC XXVII’ and pencilled ‘1722’.
Possibly from the frontispiece of Epistolae anatomicae duae, novas observations & animadversions complectentes, 1728.
Giambattista Morgagni was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1722.
