    Description
    Half-length portrait of Jean Louis Petit, turned to the right as viewed and looking out to viewer. He wears long wig, collarless jacket, waistcoat and neck tie. In an oval frame on a pedestal.

    Inscribed ‘Vigé pinxit. Baléchou Sculp. JEANLOUIS PETIT. Chirurgien juré à Paris, de l’Académie Royle des Sciences, et de la Société Royle de Londres; Censeur et Démonstratr Rol Ancien Prevôt de St. Côme, ancient Directr et Secretre de l’Académie Royale de Chirurgie. C.F.Lesne Chirurg. Juré à Paris, et son Eleve, lui a dédié ce Portrait. 1742. AParis chez Odieuvre Md. Déstampes rue danjou la dermiere P Cochere a gauche entrantpar la rue Dauphine, C.P.R’ and pencilled ‘1729’.

    Jean Louis Petit was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1729.
