Half-length portrait of John Pringle, turned to the left as viewed and looking back to viewer. He wears shoulder length wig, collarless jacket and gown with decorated sleeve detail.

John Pringle was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1745. He was President from 1772 to 1778 and Vice President 1769 to 1770 and 1771 to 1772. He was awarded the Copley medal in 1752.
