Description
Head and shoulders portrait of John Ross, turned to the right as viewed and looking off to distance. He wears shoulder length wig, cassock and bands. Oval in a rectangular frame decorated with bishop’s hat and a shield with keys and sword.
Inscribed ‘The Right Revd. DR. JOHN ROSS, LORD BISHOP of EXETER’ and pencilled ‘1758’.
John Ross was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1758.
