Description
Decorative card issued to commemorate the golden wedding anniversary of Sir William Crookes and Lady Ellen Crookes (née Humphrey) on 10 April 1906.
The card incorporates paired portraits of William and Ellen Crookes from 1856 and 1906 and the Crookes coat of arms with the motto ‘UBI CRUX IBI LUX’. Printed lower left: ‘WATERLOW & SONS, LIMITED, LONDON WALL, LONDON’.
Sir William Crookes (1832-1919) British chemist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1863. He served as President of the Royal Society in 1913-1915.
