Illustration from the manuscript version of the paper ‘Researches in stellar photography. 1. In its relation to the photometry of the stars. 2. Its applicability to astronomical measurement of great precision’, by Charles Pritchard, Proceedings of the Royal Society, vol.41 (1886), pp.195-212. This item was not used in the final printed paper.

Annotations around the main image indicate an exposure time of 11 minutes and provide details of the photographic plate and developer. The major stars in the field and their magnitudes are indicated. Additional notes appear verso.
