Description
Microscope studies of a 2.3kg meteorite discovered at Makarewa, Invercargill, Southland, South Island, New Zealand. The meteorite was an ordinary L6 chondrite, discovered in 1879.
Figures 4-6 from the manuscript version of the paper ‘On a meteoric stone found at Makariwa near Invercargill, New Zealand’….the chief line in the spectrum of the nebulae’, by J. Norman Lockyer, Proceedings of the Royal Society, vol.53 (1893), pp.54-64. The illustrations were used as single figures interspersed within the text in the published paper.
The image is annotated below in ink: ‘magnified 25 diams.’, and with imprint details.
