    Formal double portrait featuring Michael Faraday and William Thomas Brande. Brande is seated, holding his watch chain and waistcoat with his right hand. Faraday is shown standing, his left hand resting on a column with his right hand holding the back of a chair. A small desk with a stack of books on top can be seen towards the right edge of the image.

    Michael Faraday (1791-1867) British scientist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824. He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1832 and 1838, the Royal Medal in 1835 and 1846 and received the Rumford Medal in 1846.William Thomas Brande (1788-1866) British chemist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1809. He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1813.
