Illustrations from the manuscript version of the paper ‘On impact with a liquid surface’, by A. M. Worthington, Proceedings of the Royal Society, vol.34 (1882), pp.217-230. The published paper reproduced this sequence of figures, with several omissions, as series 6, on p.228.
Inscribed above in ink: ‘Plate VIII’, corrected to ‘IX (series 1)’ and again in blue pencil ‘Engrave as Series V. Engraver to omit these’. Inscribed in pencil ‘Marble sphere 1.28 cm in Diameter dropped from a height of 62 cm…’
