Head and shoulders portrait of Philip Stanhope, turned three quarters to the right and looking off to distance. He wears shoulder length wig and lace cravat. Oval in a rectangular frame.
Inscribed ‘S. Harding delt. E.Harding sculp. Pubd. Decr 2, 1793, by E Harding, Pall Mall. EARL of CHESTERFIELD. The original picture in crayons in the collection of the Earl of Harrington’ and pencilled ‘1708’.
Philip Stanhope was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1708.
