    Half-length portrait of John Edward Swinburne, seated and looking off to the left as viewed. He wears regency-style clothing and has a shade over right eye.

    Inscribed in pen 'Sir Jn Edw Swinburne FRS’ and pencilled ‘1818’.

    John Edward Swinburne was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1818.
