Description
Study of a barley plant, showing a potted plant with four tubes over the spikelets, shading the ears of the corn.
Possibly taken at Rothamsted Experimental Laboratories or at the Imperial College Field Station at Slough, during Helen Kemp Porter’s studies into the physiology of barley, concerning the origin of starch in the grain.
Helen Kemp Porter (1899-1987) was a plant physiologist and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1956.
