Description
Experiment showing glow effects and dark intervals within a glass bulb of a type used in an experiment with electrical sparks. Intended to continue observations by Mr Hittorf, who had developed a bulb containing two electrodes in close proximity, Arthur Schuster repeated the work with more distantly spaced poles.

Sir Arthur Schuster [formerly Franz Arthur Friedrich] (1851-1934) German-born British physicist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1879.
Arthur T. Stanton (d.1898) acted as Arthur Schuster’s experimental assistant at the University of Manchester.
