    Description
Mythological interpretation of the planet Uranus, the god reclining with one arm resting upon a medallion profile portrait of King George III, in whose honour Georgium Sidus was named by the astronomer William Herschel. Uranus sits astride an armillary sphere flanked by two putti, one of whom looks though a telescope. The scene is decorated with birds of paradise.
