Description

Marine zoological studies of sea creatures. Figure 1 Common periwinkle, Littorina littorea (here styled Turbo littoreus). Figure 2 Sea anemone, possibly Calliactis parasitica (here styled Tertia priapi marini). Figures 3-4 Moon jellyfish Aurelia aurita (here styled Medusa cruciata). Figure 5-7 Comb jelly, Beroe ovata (here styled Medusa ovata) with unidentified specimens of jellyfish.

Plate 14 from Opuscula subseciva, observations miscellaneas de animalculis et plantis…Liber tertius, by Job Baster (Haarlem, 1761). The plate is inscribed above ‘TAB.XIV’ and below: ‘J. Rhodius ad viv. pinxit.’

Job Baster (1711-1775) Dutch physician and naturalist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1738.
