    Group portrait of sixteen scientists, including Ivan Pavlov and Charles Scott Sherrington, at the Department of Physiology of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, St Petersburg [Leningrad], Russia. A blackboard and items of laboratory equipment are visible behind.

    The photograph’s mount has an embossed photographer’s name in Cyrillic [not legible] and the mount is also inscribed in ink: ‘May, 1913’.

    Bound in with a collection of autographed copies of papers by Ivan Pavlov, 1900-1923, donated by C.S. Sherrington.

    Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1946) Russian physiologist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1907.

    Sir Charles Scott Sherrington (1857-1952) British physiologist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1893. He served as President of the Royal Society from 1920 to 1925.
