    Frontispiece plate from the monograph Air-breathers of the coal period…of Nova Scotia by J W Dawson (Dawson Brothers, Montreal, 1863).

    The illustration is inscribed above: ‘AIR-BREATHERS OF THE COAL PERIOD.’ And below: ‘RESTORATIONS OF BAPHETES, DENDRERPETON, HYLONOMUS, AND HYLERPETON.’ The engraver’s name, ‘J.WALKER’ appears lower right within the illustration.

    Sir John William Dawson (1820-1899) Canadian geologist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1862.
