Description
Head and shoulders portrait of George Villiers inclined to the right as viewed and looking out to viewer. He wears doublet with full sleeves, lace collar, and medallion around his neck. His hair is short and curled, and he has a fine moustache. In a circular frame.
Inscribed ‘Sherlock sculp. VILLERS Duke of BUCKINGHAM’ and pencilled ‘1663’.
George Villiers was an original Fellow of the Royal Society, elected in 1661.
