Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Alessandro Volta in three quarter profile to the right as viewed, looking back to viewer. He wears high collared jacket with lace cravat and has two medals pinned to the left hand breast of his jacket. In an oval frame.
Inscribed ‘Dessiné d’aprés le portrait original de Nicolo Bottoni et gravé par Ambroise Tardieu. ALEXANDRE VOLTA,(Physicien), Associé-étranger de l’Academie des Sciences de Paris Professeur à l’Université de Pavie, Né à le 171’ and pencilled ‘Elected 1791’.
Alessandro was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1791, he was awarded the Copley Medal in 1794.
