Description
Full length seated portrait of a fashionably dressed woman, wearing a feathered hat and holding a book in her right hand.
Frontispiece to the monograph Natuur- en geschiedkundige Verhandeling over de Reuzen en Dwergen... (&) Aanmerkingen wegens sommige verscheidenheden in den mensch...by Wilhelmus Greve (J.C. Sepp & Zoon, Amsterdam, 1818).
Untitled, the frontispiece appears in Greve’s description of people of unusual size. Although most of his study relates to the tallest and smallest people, he gives examples of obesity, including a representation of the ten-year old Janna Drabbe, hence the presumed inclusion of this print.
Wilhelmus Greve (1762-1819) Dutch physician, practiced in Rotterdam, Noordwijk and Delft.
