Description
Full length portrait of John West standing in a rural landscape accompanied by a small dog standing behind him. He stands on a grass bank with a tree on his left and a pond, copse, and hillside on his right as viewed. He is dressed for hunting in long coat, breeches and wide brimmed hat.
Inscribed ‘JOHN WEST EARL of DELAWAR. From an Original Drawing by Lord Byron in the collection of R Bull Esqr. Pubd. July 12 1800 by S. Harding 127 Pall Mall’ and pencilled ‘1728’.
John West was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1728.
