Description
Half-length portrait of Thomas Young seated facing forward with head turned to the right as viewed, looking off to distance. He wears short hair and is dressed in double breasted jacket, white stock, and cravat. He holds a pair of spectacles in his right hand and has another pair suspended from a ribbon around his neck. Draped cloth hangs in the background.
Facsimile signature reads ‘Thomas Young MD Sci. BS.’ Paper support inscribed ‘1794’ in pencil.
Thomas Young was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1794, he was Foreign Secretary from 1804 until 1829.
