Half-length portrait of Michael Faraday seated in three-quarter profile to the left as viewed. He wears regency-style clothing of high collared shirt with dark cravat, jacket and waistcoat. Seated at a table with papers, he holds spectacles in right hand.

Inscribed ‘Engraved by C. Cook. MICHAEL FARADAY, D.C.L., F.R.S. WILLIAM MACKENZIE, LONDON, EDINBURGH & GLASGOW.’

Michael Faraday was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824.
