Head and shoulders portrait of George John Althrop, 2nd Earl Spencer, in three quarter profile to the right. He wears short hair with side whiskers and is wearing a coat with high collar and cravat.
Inscribed ‘ENGRAVED BY E. SCRIVEN. From a Painting by George Hayer Esq. M A S L & C. LONDON, JOHN SAUNDERS JUNR. 49 PATTERNOSTER ROW.’ With facsimile signature and pencilled ‘1782’.
George John Althorp, 2nd Earl Spencer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1780.
