Description
Half-length portrait of Thomas Astle seated with in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed and holding a scroll of parchment in his right hand. He wears high collared double breasted jacket, shirt and cravat.
Inscribed ‘H. Howard A. Pinxit. W.Skelton Sculpsit. THOMAS ASTLE ESQR. F.R.S. &c.’
Thomas Astle was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1766.
