Description
Half-length portrait of George Back in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed and looking back to viewer. He wears military jacket with high collared shirt and cravat. He has short hair and side whiskers.
Inscribed ‘Drawn by R. Woodman. Engraved by E Finden. LIEUT. G. BACK, R.N.’ and pencilled ‘1847’.
Sir George Back was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1847.
