Description
Head and shoulders portrait of John Bacon facing right as viewed and gazing upwards, a table with sculpting tools on the right hand side as viewed. He wears jacket with deep collar and lace cravat. In an oval frame.
Inscribed ‘JOHN BACON Esq. R.A.’ and pencilled ‘1750’.
John Bacon was not a Fellow of the Royal Society, this portrait was probably collected in error believed to be John Bacon (d1752) who was a Fellow of the Royal Society elected in 1751.
