    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of Giorgio Baglivi slightly inclined to the right and looking back to the left as viewed. He wears short curled wig and he is dressed in jacket, overcoat and shirt with a short falling collar. Enclosed by a laurel wreath entwined with two snakes and surmounted by the sun and a phoenix rising out of flames below.

    Inscribed ‘GEORGIUS BAGLIVUS E TAT.34 C. Duflos Sc. Parisus. Carolus Maratta inv:, delin., et autori amico D.D.D. Romae. 1703’

    Giorgio Baglivi was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1698.
