    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of Richard Bentley inclined to the left and looking over to the right as viewed. He wears shoulder length curled wig and is dressed in cassock and bands. Oval in a rectangular frame and on a pedestal.

    Inscribed ‘RICHARDUS BENTLEIUS AET: XLVIII. MDCCX. J. Thornhill pinxit. Geo: Vertue Sculp:’ and pencilled ‘1695’.

    Richard Bentley was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1695, he was on the Council in 1697.
