Head and shoulders portrait of Thomas Burgess in three quarter profile, seated in an ornate carved chair. He wears short wig and spectacles and is dressed in cassock and bands.
Inscribed ‘Owen, Pinx. Wagstaff, sculp. THOMAS BURGESS, D.D. BISHOP OF SALISBURY. Published by Longman Orme & Co. May 1840’ and pencilled ‘1807’.
Thomas Burgess was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1807.
