    Rotating paper model of a medicinal dynameter and equivalents scale [‘Medicinisches dynameter und aequivalenten-scale’] intended for use with pharmaceutical substances.

    Figure 115 from Das Laboratorium…v.2 (Weimar, 1840). Inscribed above ‘Taf.CXV’ and headed ‘MEDICINISCHES DYNAMETER UND AEQUIVALENT-SCALE’. The accompanying article styles this model as: ‘Dr. Paris’s Pharmaco-Dynamometer.’

    Engraved below is a statement commencing: ‘Medicinisches dynameter und aequivalenten-scale. Erklaerung. Dieses instrument zeigt schon bei der blosen ansicht, die menge des in einem bestimmpten gewicht oder Maas itgend einer officinellen zusammensetzung enthaltenen hauptwirkungssstoffs, und die gabe jedes praparats, welches hinsichtlich, seiner starke mit einer bestimmten menge irgend eines andern aus der selben classe gleichgeltend ist.’ [This instrument shows from the simple view that the quantity of the active substance contained in a definite weight or measure of an official composition, and the supply of each preparation, which is equal in its strength with a definite quantity of any other from the same class].

    John Ayrton Paris (bap.1785 d.1840) British physician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1821.
