    Description
X-ray crystallography micrograph showing the reflection patterns of synthetic sterol with the skeletal structural formula in the bottom left hand corner.

Inscribed on pen on the film ‘1.Synthetic [100]//(001) c.2 hrs 17.9.47

From a collection of photographs belonging to John Warcup Cornforth, an accompanying letter indicates these micrographs were possibly taken by Robert Robinson during his experimental work with Cornforth on the synthesis of substances relating to the sterols.

Robert Robinson (1886-1975) was a British organic chemist, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1920 and served as President from 1945 until 1950.
