    Landscape showing waterfowl on part of an island at the lake of Mývatn, Iceland. The birds include ducks and gulls, some shown near nest-sites containing clutches of eggs. Some details of plant life, with a volcanic crater behind.

    Friedrich August Ludwig Thienemann (1793-1858) German physician and ornithologist embarked on a tour of Norway and Iceland with Gustav Biedermann Günther (1801-1866) German surgeon, during the years 1819-1820.
