    Zoological study showing the head of the Bald uakari Cacajao calvus, possibly the Red bald-headed uakari subspecies, Cacajao calvus rubicundus (here termed Brachyurus rubicundus). The primate, native to Brazil and Peru in South America, is shown in profile.

    Plate 5 in The collected scientific papers of the late William Alexander Forbes, edited by F.E. Beddard (London, R.H. Porter, 1885). Originally published as ‘On the external characters and anatomy of the red Uakari monkey…’, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 1880, pp.627-647.

    Inscribed with the signature ‘J.Smit’ on the plate. Inscribed above ‘Pl. V. P.Z.S. 1880 Pl.LXII.’ and below: ‘J.Smit lith. Hanhart imp. HEAD OF BRACHYURUS RUBRICUNDUS Nat Size.’

    William Alexander Forbes (1855-1883) British zoologist travelled to Brazil, and West Africa where he died.
