    Description
    Anatomical study of the human gravid uterus in the ninth month of pregnancy. The uterus in posterior view and dissected with part of the uterine wall removed, showing the foetus in the womb.

    Inscribed ‘J. V. Rymsdyk delint. J. Mitchel sculp. TAB. XII. Al eâdem, quâ proecedens, muliere; exhibet apertum planè a parte posticâ uterum cum vagina, quô situs Foetûs, parsque inferior Placentae sub Foetus capite indicarentur. Placenta scilicet orificio uteri interno accreverat, eo que sub finem graviditatis dilatato, fatali inde divisione separata est. Pub: Nov: 15: 1774, by Dr. Hunter.’

    William Hunter (1718-1783) was a British physician, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767.
