    Description
    Anatomical study of the human gravid uterus in the ninth month of pregnancy. The uterus in anterior view and dissected with the front of the uterine wall removed, showing the foetus in the womb with its head upwards.

Aperto Utero (Vagina et Vesica urinaria integris) incisis scilicet, una cum anteriori uteri pariete, secundinis, ei adhoerentibus, et in fundum uteri reclinatis, situs foetus (qui hic’ erectus est) conspicitur.     William Hunter (1718-1783) was a British physician, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767.
