    Description
    Dual portrait of Henry Wentworth Acland (right) and John Ruskin (left) in an oval frame. The two are shown sitting out of doors in front of an ivy-grown wall at Ruskin’s home of Brantwood, Coniston in Cumbria, England. Ruskin is seated on a cane chair and shown in profile. Acland faces him, holding a book or album and with a walking stick held in the crook of his left arm.

    Inscribed below with facsimile signatures and the caption: ‘RUSKIN AND ACLAND AT BRANTWOOD, 1893’.

    Plate 5 in the book Sir Henry Wentworth Acland, Bart. K.C.B., F.R.S….a memoir, by James Beresford Atlay (London, Smith, Elder & Co., 1903).

    Sir Henry Wentworth Acland, 1st baronet (1815-1900), British physician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1847.
