    The Aland coat of arms appears below. Inscribed below: ‘G. Kneller Bart. pinxt. G. Vertue Sculp. The Rt. Honble. JOHN LORD FORTESCUE late one of the JUSTICES of the Court of COMMON PLEAS. L.L.D. F.R.S. Obijt. Ao. 1747. Engrav’s and Sold by G. Vertue, Brownlow Street, 1750. With various pencil inscriptions below and a price, ‘3/-‘.

    John Fortescue Aland, 1st Baron Fortescue of Credan (1670-1746) British judge, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1712.
