Inscribed in Darwin’s hand on paper support "I like this photograph very much better than any other which has been taken of me". Further inscription directly below the print ‘From life [?] copy [?] Julia Margaret Cameron, 1868’ and below ‘Given to R Liebreich by Mm. Cameron with her kindest remembrances’.
Charles Darwin was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1839, he was on the council from 1854-1856. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1853 and the Copley Medal in 1864.
