    Head and shoulders portrait of Alexander Fleming facing forward with his arms crossed in front. He is dressed in a pinstriped suit with a bowtie and has a watch on this left wrist.

    Inscribed on the reverse ‘FLEMING, SIR ALEXANDER F.R.S. 1943 photograph received from Biog. Mem 5.8.1958.’ Three stamps on the reverse read ‘PHOTOGRAPHY HERBERT de GRAY LTD. NINETY-FIVE MOUNT STREET LONDON, W.1 GROSVENOR 2588. We would appreciate in the case of publication, that you mention a study by Herbert de Gray.’

    Alexander Fleming (1881-1955) was a British bacteriologist, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1943.
