    Head and shoulders portrait of Augustin Pyramus de Candolle inclined to the left as viewed. He wears regency-style jacket with waistcoat, shirt and cravat.

    Inscribed ‘Dessiné d’après Nature à Paris en 1824, et Gravé par Ambroise Tardieu. AUGIN. PYRAMUS DE CANDOLLE (Botaniste), Professeur à l’Académie de Genève, Correspondant de l’Institut de France Membre des sociétés royales de Londres, Edinburgh, Munich &a. Né à Genève le 4 Février 1778’ and pencilled ‘elec 1822 Died 1841.’

    Augustin Pyramus de Candolle (1778-1841) was a Swiss botanist, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1822.
