Three-quarter length portrait of William Chambers seated to the left and head turned back to viewer. He holds quill in right hand, elevated towards his chin and his left hand rests on architectural plans upon a table. Somerset House [?] visible in the background, left hand side as viewed.
Inscribed ‘After Sir Joshua Reynolds’ with facsimile signature and pencilled ‘1776’
Sir William Chambers was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1776.
