Inscribed ‘Dessiné d’après le tableau de Gros et gravé par Ambroise Tardieu. JEAN ANTOINE CHAPTAL COMTE DE CHANTELOUP, (Chimiste,). Membre de ‘Académie des Sciences, Pair de France etc. Né à Nosaret (Dept. de la Lozére) le 5 Juin, 1756’ and pencilled ‘Died 1832’.
Jean Antoine Claude Chaptal was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1825.
