    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of John Cheyne seated in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed and looking back to viewer. He wears regency-style jacket with high collared shirt and cravat.

    Inscribed on separate paper ‘M.D. F.R.S.E.’ with facsimile signature and ‘S.Cheyne MD FRS. Not F.R.S.’ on paper support.

    John Cheyne was a British physician and surgeon, he was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
