Description
Head and shoulders portrait of William Curtius in three-quarter profile to the right and looking back to viewer. He wears cassock and bands with cap. Oval in a rectangular frame with crest lower centre.
Inscribed ‘M Rosa pinxit. SIR WILLIAM CURTIUS. Published by W. Richardson. Castle Street Leicester Fields’ and pencilled ‘1667’.
Sir William Curtius (1599-1678) was a British diplomat; he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1667.
