    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of Georges-Frédéric Cuvier in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed. He wears high-collared double-breasted jacket with shirt and cravat. In an oval frame.

    Inscribed ‘Dessiné d’aprés nature en 1826, et Gravé par Ambroise Tardieu. G.FRÉDÉRIC CUVIER (Zoologiste), Né à Montbéliard (Dépt. du Doubs) le 27 Juin 1773.’ And pencilled ‘Born 1773 elected 1835 foreign member.’

    Georges-Frédéric Cuvier (1773-1838) was a French zoologist he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1835.
